Strawberry
Shortcake (Cake Type)
| 1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons shortening 1 egg 2 cups flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 quart strawberries Slice strawberries and add ½ to 1 cup sugar. Mix and set aside to allow sugar to melt. In a separate bowl, cream sugar and shortening
thoroughly. Add egg and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately
with milk. Add milk and flavoring. Pour into greased shallow pan and bake
in moderate oven 20 to 30 minutes. To serve, split in half and spread strawberries
between layers and on top.
