Orange Breakfast Rolls
 
 
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup orange juice
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons grated orange rind
4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
6 teaspoons baking powder
½ cup shortening
1½  cups milk 
½ cup sugar 
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Mix together 2/3 cup sugar, orange juice, 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, grated orange rind. Bring to a boil and continue boiling three minutes. Remove from heat and pour into flat baking dish. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in ½ cup shortening until mixture is like coarse cornmeal. Pour in milk all at once and mix lightly. Divide dough into two parts. Pat out dough on a floured board into two rectangles, ½ inch thick. Mix together ½ cup sugar the cinnamon, and sprinkle over dough. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut each roll into 12 slices. Arrange on orange mixture in baking dish, cut side down. Bake in moderate oven (350° F.) for 40 minutes.
