3 tablespoons shortening
½ teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unpopped popcorn
½ cup granulated sugar

Put shortening, vanilla and salt in six-quart popper and heat mixture until shortening is hot. (Do not use butter or margarine as it tends to stick). Add popcorn. In about one-half minute, add sugar. Pop corn in the usual way, shaking or stirring continually. Serve as it come from the popper, or shape immediately into balls.
