Crumb Cake
 
 

2 cups brown sugar  2 cups flour  ½ cup shortening Pinch salt 1 egg, beaten  1 cup sour milk (1 cup milk with 1 teaspoon vinegar added) 1 teaspoon soda Raisins and nuts if desired Cream sugar and shortening and add flour, crumbing it as for pie dough. Take out ¾ cup of crumbs to save for topping. Into the rest stir beaten egg, sour milk and soda, Add raisins and nuts if desired. Beat well. Pour into pan and sprinkle reserved crumbs over top. Bake in slow oven (300° P.) 25-30 minutes.
