Chocolate Upside Down Cake
 
 
1¼ cups cake four
¾ cup sugar 
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 square bitter chocolate
2 tablespoons butter
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
½ cup chopped nuts 

Sift and measure flour. Resift with sugar, baking powder and salt. Melt together chocolate and butter, and mix with milk and vanilla. Stir into the dry ingredients , add nuts and blend thoroughly. Pour into a well greased layer cake dish and cover with topping.

TOPPING: Mix 2 tablespoons cocoa, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup of granulated sugar and spread over top cake batter. Over all pour 1 cup boiling water. Place in moderate oven (350° F.) and bake 1 hour. Turn it out for serving. Serve slightly warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
