Broiled
Date Appetizers
| 2 cups (1 pound) pitted fresh dates
½ cup water ½ cup orange juice 3 tablespoons wine vinegar ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg ½ cup lightly packed brown sugar 1/8 teaspoon salt Bacon slices, cut in thirds Put dates into a bowl. Blend water, orange juice, vinegar, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Pour mixture over dates; cover and let stand until cool. Refrigerate at least 24 hours to allow flavors to blend. Wrap 2 dates in one-third slice of bacon
and skewer with a toothpick; repeat, using all dates. Broil 6 inches from
heat 6 to 8 minutes, or until bacon is crisp, turning once.
